The Customs Authority announced last Thursday (21 August) the launch early next month of the full implementation of the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) protocol.
The Authority said the launch of the system comes after the conclusion the two-week visit of the technical expert from Strategy Object for the Customs Procedures Automation Project. The visit included technical meetings and workshops with specialized teams to assess infrastructure readiness and review implementation progress.
The closing session was attended by Major General Musa Ali Mohammed, Acting Director General of the Customs Authority, who praised the efforts of the project team and the valuable support provided by the expert.
The full launch of the ASYCUDA system was one of the key outcomes of the two-week visit, which the Authority said marks a strategic step toward accelerating procedures, reducing paperwork, and enhancing transparency in customs operations.
Major General Musa Ali Mohammed reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to completing the digital transformation project, highlighting its vital role in facilitating trade, strengthening governance, and supporting national efforts to combat smuggling.
The Automated System for Customs Data – ASYCUDA
ASYCUDA is a computerized customs management system that covers most foreign trade procedures. It handles manifests and customs declarations, along with accounting, transit and suspense procedures. It also generates trade data that can be used for statistical economic analysis. The ASYCUDA software is developed by UNCTAD.
ASYCUDA uses international codes and standards developed by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), WCO (World Customs Organization) and the United Nations. It can be configured to suit the national characteristics of individual customs regimes, national tariffs and legislation. ASYCUDA provides Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) between traders and customs using prevailing standards, such as XML.
