‎The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that the Judicial Control Affairs Unit was able to identify and locate a ring of fuel smuggling suspects in the Al-Mutrad area of Al-Zawiya Al-Gharb Municipality.

‎While the Public Order Prosecutor’s Office, accompanied by the unit’s enforcement officers, were conducting a transfer of the seized assets, they were interrupted by an attempt by the suspects to prevent their movement by blocking the road leading to the criminal site in an effort to evade proof of the presence of smuggled goods at the location.

However, the team was able to pass to the intended location. Their arrival resulted in the seizure of 42,000 litres of diesel fuel loaded in fixed containers.

It will be recalled that western Libya has been suffering a fuel supply crisis and that the government and the judicial authorities are conducting an anti-fuel smuggling drive.
