In a statement issued today, Libya’s Presidential Council warned against any unauthorised military manoeuvres towards Tripoli.
It stated that any movements or transfers of security and military personnel must be conducted based on its explicit and prior instructions and the competent authorities and within the established legal framework. It noted that any action outside this framework constitutes a violation of these instructions and exposes perpetrators to legal accountability without exception.
The cautionary statement by the Presidency Council come on the back of unconfirmed Libyan social media reports of intensive military movements from Misrata toward Tripoli overnight Thursday-Friday.
According to some of these unconfirmed reports, armoured military convoys equipped with heavy weapons moved from Misrata toward Tripoli.
The Presidency Council went on to affirm in its statement that consolidating stability and establishing security throughout the country is a top priority, as it is the cornerstone of any political or economic progress. It noted its role in full supervision and direct guidance of all security and military operations.”
It called on all parties to strictly adhere to the controls and instructions regulating security and military work, emphasising that security is a collective responsibility that does not tolerate individual interpretations or unilateral decisions that could undermine overall stability.
