CBL receives results from meetings with international banks

In a leaked letter dated today from the incumbent Central Bank of Libya (CBL) Governor Saddek El-Kaber sent to the Acting Interior Minister Imad Trabelsi, the Governor says he holds the latter responsible for the security of the CBL.

El-Kaber also informs Trabelsi that he has informed the Attorney General of the attempted storming of the bank.

The letter reads as follows:

‘‘It is indicated that you have received the task of securing the perimeter and headquarters of the Central Bank of Libya, Tripoli, on Friday, August 23, 2024, following the issuance of the Presidential Council of advanced and illegal decisions regarding changing the management of the Central Bank of Libya

Accordingly, we inform you that the main headquarters of the Central Bank of Libya in Tripoli has been subjected since this morning until we issued this statement to an attempt to storm by force by elements claiming to be assigned to do so by the Presidential Council without legal basis.

I hold you responsible for the consequences of their storming the Central Bank headquarters, which will have a great impact on harming the Libyan state. We have informed the Attorney General in particular. The matter is extremely important and requires speedy procedures’’.
