NESDB discusses food security and social protection with World Food Programme

‎The Chairman of the Libyan Economic Forum, and Chairman of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, said that the first session of the Libyan Economic Forum, held yesterday at the NESDB’s Tripoli headquarters, aims to open dialogue between the public and private sectors in Libya. ‎

‎Several strategies, policies including 14 projects
Al-Futaisi added, in an exclusive statement to Libya Herald, that this session will pave the way for this dialogue through reflection sessions on a number of strategies and policies that the NESDB has worked on during the past three years and included about 14 projects for adoption.

The NESDB Chairman said the vision of the forum, as a global Libyan entity, supports the economy, encourages investment, strengthens its position, ensures sustainability, and establishes a diversified Libyan economy that produces knowledge and supports innovation. This is achieved by spreading awareness and promoting dialogue at the local, regional, and global levels to establish successful partnerships and create investment opportunities.

The targeted 14 projects include a National Strategy focused on developing and reforming the urban planning system, in addition to other projects to develop and reform the transportation sector, enhance security and benefit from mineral resources, and the industrial and oil sectors.

‎International partnership
Al Futaisi stressed the importance of expanding the scope of the Libyan Economic Forum, which operates under the auspices of the NESDB, next year to witness an international presence through the organization of an international conference.‎

He said global partnerships and foreign capital from around the world will be invited to highlight the advantages of investing in Libya and create joint investment opportunities between Libyan businessmen and foreign investors.

Al-Futaisi added that the overall goal of the forum is to be a continuous and permanent economic forum that brings together the private sector to form partnerships and investments with the public sector, thus achieving the most important goal of developing the economy by benefiting from the experiences of some countries, consulting international experts, and encouraging partnerships between the public and private sectors to achieve global competitiveness.

To host all private sector dialogues within the forum
He emphasized the National Council for Economic Development’s intention to host all private sector dialogues within the forum throughout the year, helping it explore available investment opportunities with the public sector and form successful partnerships within Libyan legislation that encourages local investment with multiple advantages, ensuring good returns and profitability that contribute to stimulating the economy and creating diverse sources of income.
