From 3 to 6 February, AFRICOM Deputy Commander Lt. Gen. John W. Brennan, U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Rose Keravuori, and US Embassy in Libya Chargé d’affaires Jeremy Berndt, visited Libya to meet with leaders in Tripoli, Benghazi, and Sirte.
Commenting on the visit, the US Embassy in Libya said ‘‘U.S.-Libya security cooperation supports Libyan-led efforts to unify the military and preserve Libya’s sovereignty.
Achieving unity across institutions is key to Libya’s stability, and promoting peace and stability remains a priority for U.S. national security.’’
Speaking to Libyan media in Sirte during the visit, Lt. Gen. Brennan said ‘‘We hope that the Libyan people will live in peace and prosperity as we take concrete steps to help Libyans achieve the unification of military and security institutions.’’
