Libya’s Benghazi based Tika Construction Chemicals Manufacturing company has informed Libya Herald that it has landed a contract to supply porcelain tile adhesive and grouting materials to the Intercontinental Hotel construction project in the Caribbean Island of Grenada.

Established in 2022 in Benghazi, the company focused on knowledge transfer from one of the most advanced countries in this sector, Spain. It started production in the summer of 2023 with its first production line, porcelain and ceramic tile adhesive. This is a dry powder formulated to create, once mixed with water, a strong mechanical bond between ceramic and porcelain tiles and the substrate (wall or floor).

Production line
This tile adhesive production line currently produces nine different products under two brands: Germa, the company’s own brand, named after the ancient town of Germa, located south of Libya. The other brand is Xtreme, a Spanish brand that Tika landed a licensing agreement for with Xtreme to manufacture its products in Libya under its guidelines, formulation, and branding.

Meeting international manufacturing requirements
However, to do so, Tika had to pass its manufacturing process through rigorous testing and was successfully awarded with European Quality Mark (CE) in addition to ISO9001.

Building an export market
Starting in Libya, Tika has had its eye on the global exports market from day one by participating in global trade fairs in UAE, Spain and Mauritania to build network and brand awareness. After successfully starting to export to Malta earlier this year through a distribution agreement with a large construction materials disruptor in the EU country, Tika has now followed this up with its latest export order to Grenada.

Meeting export requirements
Tika’s tile adhesives were selected for export to Grenada by the developer, a Dubai-based company, after passing the necessary technical requirements that were set by the project consultant, and engineering company out of Beirut/Dubai. The tests included sample testing, technical documentation examination and performance guarantees.

Expansion plans
In addition to Malta and Grenada, the company informed that it is now in discussions with potential distributors in Cyprus, Iraq, Jordan, in addition to Sub-Saharan Africa.
