Waha Oil Company announced yesterday that it had agreed a strategic partnership with the global oil services giant (SLB), formerly known as Schlumberger.
This partnership, Waha revealed, aims to drive production and enhance the technical capabilities of Libyan cadres in the oil and gas sector.
It described the agreement as an ambitious step towards achieving the objectives of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) in Libya to increase production and develop local competencies.
Successful drilling of horizontal wells
Waha Oil reminded that this partnership had already yielded tangible results, most notably the successful drilling of horizontal wells using advanced guided drilling techniques in the Al-Dafa field, with the help of experts from Schlumberger.
Conducting advanced reservoir studies
It is, it continued, an important step towards improving production efficiency and increasing oil recovery from the company’s fields. Moreover, Schlumberger is currently conducting advanced reservoir studies of the oasis fields, some of which are the first of their kind in Libya and the region.
Simulation analyses to contribute to additional 100,000 bpd
Among these pioneering studies, simulation analyses of runoff problems in surface facilities and wax formation risk studies in the North Jallo field are expected to contribute to the addition of approximately 100,000 barrels of oil per day to production in the coming years, strengthening Waha’s position as a major contributor to Libyan oil production.
Schlumberger offering specialized training for Libyan engineers
As part of its commitment to developing local competencies, Schlumberger offers specialized training programs for Libyan engineers in the field of oil reservoir simulation, using the latest technologies and software in this field, and this initiative aims to build national capabilities capable of dealing with complex technical challenges in the development of oil and gas fields.
Role model in how to leverage global expertise
This strategic partnership, Waha Oil concluded, confirms its commitment to adopting the latest technologies in the oil industry and developing its national cadres. This step is a role model in how to leverage global expertise to enhance local capacities and achieve production targets, it added.
