Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced last Tuesday (9 April) that its subsidiary, Sirt Oil, had made ‘‘an important discovery’’ in the fields of gas and condensates. This came following the drilling of the exploratory well (W, W, 1-6) within a new geological formation in the contract area (M). N.6) Southeast of Al-Lahib Field.
The NOC reported that the well was tested on 6 April, after successful drilling operations and reaching the final depth of 8,666 feet (equivalent to 2,641 metres). The results of the productivity test from the Oasis layer reservoir with a choke size of 48/64 inches showed that the well had produced 16.8 million cubic feet per day of Gas, and 626 barrels per day of oil, with a specific density of 49 (API).
The NOC said the discovery comes within the implementation of its strategic plan to increase oil and gas production rates and to reach ambitious targets and raise oil and gas production rates at various oil sites.
It said the discovery will contribute to adding to the quantities of gas required to supply the coastal network with its need for natural gas.
