The signboards for Benghazi’s new airport at the Tika area of the city have gone up causing excitement about the potential positive effect of the project. The signboards list the UAE’s Global Builders of the Terminals company as the implementers.

The signboard refers to the project as the ‘‘New Benghazi International Airport’’. Tika is 18 km southeast of Benghazi and the airport project will be at the abandoned airport of the Benghazi Aviation Club.

It is worth noting that Libya Herald reported on the project back in October 2023. At the time, the Acting Mayor of Benghazi Municipality, Al-Sagr Imran Bujwari, had met at his municipality’s office with the Director of the Emirati Terminals Company, Munther Abu Shayeb.

During the meeting, the municipality had reported, the implementation of the infrastructure networks of the Benghazi Airport project in the Tika area and work done to implement these networks for water, sanitation, roads, electricity, and gas in accordance with the general plan of the city and the airport project that is targeted for implementation, were reviewed.

The Acting Mayor of Benghazi Municipality had confirmed during the meeting the municipality’s readiness to cooperate fully in order to work on the completion of this project in a way that raises the level of services provided to citizens.
