REAoL delegation participates in MeetMED Week 2024 in Tunisia

A delegation of Board members of the Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL) participated in the third edition of the MeetMED Week event in Tunisia.

REAoL reported that the participation came at the official invitation of the Director General of the Energy Control Agency in Tunisia and the Director General of the National Agency for the Development and Rationalization of Energy Use in Algeria.

The 3rd edition of the MeetMED Week comes within the second phase of the project funded by the European Union in cooperation with the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).

Libya is among the countries included in the project and REAoL says it is in the process of coordinating to begin the work of this stage. The participating countries are Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine.

MeetMED Week 2024, 22 – 24 April 2024 – Hammamet, Tunisia
MeetMED (The Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Region (MeetMED), is an EU-funded project, developed by the Mediterranean Association of the National Agencies for Energy Management (MEDENER) and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).

MeetMED Week is the largest annual event of the second phase of MeetMED project that became a flagship hub for the entire Mediterranean basin as an ideal place for a high-level political dialogue where policymakers and the most relevant stakeholders convene to exchange experiences and discuss the next steps for the decarbonization of the region.

The first and second editions of MeetMED Weeks
The first and second editions of MeetMED Weeks took place in Cairo 2022, and Marrakech 2023. They gathered more than 14 organizations and 500 energy experts, policymakers, academia, diplomats, UN agencies and financial institutions from the South and North Shore of the Mediterranean

MeetMed 2024
MeetMed 2024 is being hosted by the Tunisian National Agency for Energy Conservation – ANME in partnership with the Algerian National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalisation of Energy Use – APRUE, as a hybrid event.

The conference objective
The conference objective is to bring together regional experts engaged in the project, key stakeholders and development partners to discuss and reflect on the implementation of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy measures, with the focus on the Buildings and Appliances sectors to high-level audience from Tunisia, Algeria and from the Mediterranean Region.

In addition to facilitating the discussion among stakeholders to identify barriers and single out the enabling conditions and necessary changes in the national legal frameworks to develop a conducive business environment. The event will be also an occasion to demonstrate successful pilot projects led by partners as well as to present innovative financing mechanisms to foster investments in sustainable energy.
