The EU Mission in Libya and the UNDP Libya have launched the Maharah (Skill) initiative to train 100 Libyan coders/programmers under the banner ‘‘Code today, change tomorrow’’.
The sponsors report that through the Maharat programme participants will learn everything that is required in the technical labour market in the most sought-after programming languages, to give participants the opportunity to enter the field from its widest doors.
They explain that Maharah offers training courses by the most skilled specialists in the field:
– Full stack website programming course.
– Mobile application programming course.
There will also be additional training that includes the most important personal skills necessary for the labour market and presenting trainees to appropriate employers.
Registration for trainees opened on 3 December and will continue to 13 December.
The initiative says the coder’s profession has a promising future. It adds that in the past decade, programming has transformed the way we live and work through websites and mobile applications. Website and application development remain catalysts for change, especially with the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Maharah initiative says AI is estimated to create two million new jobs in 2025. This estimate results from reports indicating that about 60% of workers today work in jobs that did not exist in 1940. More than 85% of employment growth in the past 80 years has been driven by technological innovations that have created new jobs.
Today’s youth must therefore be ready to keep pace with technical developments to ensure their future.
The initiative is implemented by Libyan Spider.
