An integrated visiting medical team specializing in paediatric open-heart surgery arrived from the U.S. at Misrata Airport on Sunday. The team began open-heart surgery for children at Misrata Medical Centre (MMC).
MMC reported that as of Monday morning, November 20, the team began performing surgical operations and will continue for 21 days. The team includes cardiac surgeons with anaesthesiologists for heart operations and surgical nurses with intensive care nurses. Together, they will form an integrated team accompanied by doctors and medical personnel at the MMC.
The U.S. team intends to perform more than 35 open heart surgeries for children during this visit.
The U.S. medical team’s visit comes within the wider policy of the Tripoli based Libyan government, through its Department of Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS), to localise medical treatment internally as Libyan doctors gain their expertise and experience in this field.
