IOM Libya reported on Thursday that together with the Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation, it co-hosted a roundtable, bringing together 50 participants from various Diplomatic Representations and relevant Libyan line-ministries, including the Ambassadors of Italy and the European Union.
It reported that the roundtable discussions aimed at fostering collaboration on Labour Migration Governance were insightful and impactful. Key discussion points encompassed establishing contacts, evaluating cooperation mechanisms, tackling identity documentation challenges for foreign workers, ensuring the successful implementation of bilateral agreements, and exploring potential regional mechanisms.
The IOM reported that the workshop concluded with the formulation of actionable recommendations, set to be presented to target governments and Libyan government institutions, marking a significant step forward in strengthening effective labour migration governance, including the valuable role of migrant workers in the labour market.
