The Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) announced Wednesday the start of loading operations on two ships anchored at its port in the city of Misrata with 12,000 tons of hot briquetted iron (HBI) for export to Egypt.
In an exclusive interview with Libya Herald, the Director of the Media Office at LISCO, Mohamed Al-Khamaria, said that exporting the company’s products to Egypt was not the first and will not be the last. There are previous orders that were shipped to customers there and orders are being prepared for export during the coming period, he explained. This, he added, was especially the case with the rise in LISCO’s production of HBI and other iron products required in the local market.
Exports yield foreign currency
He revealed that production in LISCO’s direct reduction factories has increased significantly, which increases the volume of total production of iron products, so that it meets the quantities required at home, with the possibility of exporting abroad to achieve good returns in foreign currency.
LISCO has obtained several international quality certificates
Al-Khamaria pointed to the unloading of iron ore pellets from a ship from Brazil carrying 150,000 tons of iron ore pellets on board. He said these iron pellets will have an impact on increasing LISCO’s production during the coming months to meet the increasing export demands for its iron production due to its high quality. He said LISCO had obtained several international certificates.
Concluding, Al-Khamaria said, “The Libyan Iron and Steel Company seeks to be one of the leading iron and steel companies regionally and internationally through optimal exploitation of its human and material resources, and the adoption of modern and advanced environmentally friendly technologies that meet customer requirements and improve its economics and competitiveness in local and global markets.”
