Chaired by Mohamed Hwej, the Minister of Economy and Trade, the Advisory Committee of the Libyan Grain Bureau held its first meeting on Wednesday in the presence of the Chairman of the Committee and its members, and in the presence of the Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs and the Deputy Director General of the Insurance Supervisory Authority.

Strategic stock of grain needed
During the meeting, Minister Hwej stressed the importance of paying attention to grains and working to preserve their strategic stock. He said policy direction should be to encourage their cultivation locally and increase the percentage of dependence on local production, by solving the problems of marketing and purchasing them directly from farmers at encouraging (subsidised) prices.

Grain: A matter of national security
Hwej directed the advisory committee assisting the Libyan Grain Bureau to work to raise the faith of those concerned that producing grains locally and preserving the strategic stock of them is a matter of national security. He said encouraging and motivating farmers to plant grain is at the core of the work of the Libyan Grain Board, and that this is achieved by purchasing from them at encouraging prices, and working to solve obstacles that might stand in the way of increasing production.

It is worth noting that the Libyan Grain Bureau was formed by decision No. 493 of 2022 AD of the current Aldabaiba government while its advisory committee was formed by the decision of the Minister of Economy and Trade No. 1019 of 2022.
