With the help of the US Embassy in Tripoli and several local and foreign sponsors, international NGO ‘‘Make Life Skate Life’’ is building in Tripoli Libya’s first skatepark.

The NGO describes itself as an NGO that helps create community-built skateparks around the world.

The building of the 800 m2 site started this month at the new recreation park at the former Girls Military College site overlooking the seafront.

The NGO said young people in Libya are exposed to an extremely high level of stress with few outlets for expression. Tripoli Skatepark will provide a safe space for youth in Libya, leading to a healthier, more active, more engaged, and happier society

The project is still accepting sponsorship and the NGO invited sponsors to be part of the rebuilding of the country and pave the way for a better future for youth in Libya through skateboarding.

The NGO said that after construction of the skatepark, youth-led skate classes will be held at the site. Every week, skate classes will benefit 60 girls and boys (50/50 ratio) who normally wouldn’t have access to skateboarding.

Locally led, free-of-charge skateboard equipment and safety gear rental system will also be put in place to ensure accessibility for everyone.
