In the presence of officials, girls’ scouts, a traditional music band, skateboarders and spectators, Tripoli’s, and Libya’s, first skateboard park was officially opened yesterday.

The 800 m2 skateboarding park is located at the new Tripoli recreation park at the former Girls Military College site overlooking the seafront.

The project led by Tripoli Municipality Central, was sponsored by the US Embassy Tripoli and several local and foreign sponsors. It was constructed by international NGO ‘‘Make Life Skate Life’’.

The NGO said youth-led skate classes will be held at the site. Every week, skate classes will benefit 60 girls and boys (50/50 ratio) who normally wouldn’t have access to skateboarding.

Locally led, free-of-charge skateboard equipment and safety gear rental system will also be put in place to ensure accessibility for everyone, they added.
