Tripoli, 8 December 2021:
Under the supervision of the Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Hwej, the election of the new head of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture took place at the General Union’s Tripoli headquarters yesterday.
Four candidates stood for election by the two-thirds of board members present, including current head Mohamed Raied.
Fathi Al-Amin Al-Turki was elected overwhelmingly with 26 votes out of 38 votes. The three other candidates received 8 votes between them with the outgoing Raeied only receiving 2 votes.
It is noteworthy that the nomination of the head of the General Union of Chambers is made pursuant to a decision of the Prime Minister based on a letter from the Minister of Economy and Trade.
Minister Hwej commented that conducting the selection process through a democratic election process contributes to developing and raising the level of performance of the General Union of Chambers and strengthens its role in supporting the national economy.
