Tripoli, 31 October 2021:

Libya’s Ministry of Economy and Trade announced Thursday the launch of the Ejraat platform, an online tool offering detailed information on local business administrative procedures and regulations. It also revealed the inclusion of Libya in the EuroMed Trade Helpdesk online portal, giving access to Mediterranean/EU trade-related information and supporting trade and investment.

“Within the framework of the Ministry’s plan to develop the national economy by supporting the private sector and local industries, creating export opportunities, and attracting investors, the Ministry of Economy and Trade is pleased to announce the launch of these two platforms which will contribute to the development of the business environment and services provided to citizens and create job opportunities that support the economy’s revival and diversification.” said Mohamed Hwej , Minister of Economy and Trade.

The Ejraat platform offers business owners for different business procedures detailed information on the institutions involved, required documents and estimated cost and time. For instance, users can find a step-by-step guide to register a business, open a store, pay taxes and invest in Libya.

Ejraat was developed in cooperation with the Libyan Ministry of Economy and Trade and the General Authority of Information, as part of the EU-funded European Union for the Private Sector in Libya (EU4PSL) programme. The programme is implemented by Expertise France in partnership with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The Euromed Trade Helpdesk

Libya has also now joined the Euromed Trade Helpdesk online platform. This portal provides Libyan SMEs and companies with information about markets, tariffs and import requirements in Europe and the Mediterranean region. It aims to strengthen economic ties between Libya and the European Union, and other Mediterranean countries and foster economic integration and trade in the region by helping companies save costs on information gathering.

EU4PSL has supported the inclusion of Libya in the Euromed Trade Helpdesk in cooperation with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and Libyan partners; the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the General Union of Chambers of Commerce.

“With the country’s stabilization progressing, Libya will also be able to realize its enormous economic potential, and we expect the private sector to be a main driver of Libya’s economic development” said José Luis Sanchez Alegre, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya. “Reinforced trade relations and a business climate that is conducive to investments will be essential elements in reboosting Libya’s economy. The EU was glad to be able to work with the Libyan government on the Ejraat and Euromed Trade Helpdesk platforms. They will provide easy access for the business community, entrepreneurs and investors to key information to advance, prosper and grow.”

“We are delighted with the launch of the Ejraat and EuroMed Trade Helpdesk platforms in Libya. These platforms represent a step forward towards easing business processes by providing accessible and transparent data that will promote new opportunities for business owners on national and regional levels.” said Jeremie Pellet, Chief Executive Officer at Expertise France. “This achievement underscores Expertise France’s continued commitment to work with Libyan partners to support the economic recovery and provide an enhanced business environment for all Libyans’’ he added.
