A major dawn raid on drug dealers and criminals was conducted this morning by the Interior Ministry in Tripoli’s Girgarish region (Photo: Interior Ministry).

London, 1 October 2021:

A major dawn raid was conducted by the Ministry of Interior this morning on what the government called dens of drug industry and promotion in the Girgarish area of Tripoli today.

Tweeting on the raid, Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba said ‘‘The heroes of the Ministry of Interior carried out at dawn today, a planned security operation, to eliminate the largest dens of drug industry and promotion in the Girgarish region.

We will not allow another war to be waged against our youth, the drug war, and we will pursue criminals in all regions of Libya.’’

While the Prime Minister did not specifically mention illegal migrants as part of the raid, Ministry of Interior photos showed handcuffed illegal migrants under arrest and being loaded onto buses.

At daybreak, Aldabaiba and various other officials visited the area conducting a walkabout and listening to locals.
