London, 1 October 2021:
A four-month business training for former Libyan militias started Wednesday in Misrata and in Zintan. The programme aims at providing them with all the necessary tools and instruments to return to civilian life in optimal conditions and contribute to a peace economy.
“Mouta-Alleq is a project creating training in close relations to local businesses. Through this project, the European Union seeks to showcase that former combatant can and should be important forces to build post-war Libya”, stated Béatrice le Frapper du Helen, the Ambassador of the European Union.
The programme also targets Misrata where the training will start next Sunday. One hundred combatants have been selected through an open process that started in August 2021.
More than 1,000 applicants have expressed their interest in participating in the training, showing that this initiative responds to a pressing need from former Libyan combatants.
The selected candidates will benefit from a four-month support programme consisting in technical and vocational training, entrepreneurship and tech-oriented courses and psychological support to help them find a job or open their own business. In addition, financial support up to LD 10,000 will be granted to the most promising entrepreneurial projects.
Mouta’alleq is a part of EULEAD, a European-Union funded facility to support Libya’s recovery, and co-funded by the Government of France.
The project is implemented by B&S Europe and Super Novae, in close coordination with the Municipalities and Chambers of Commerce of Misrata and Zintan.
