UNSMIL welcomes release of eight war prisoners by Hafter’s army

UNSMIL welcomed yesterday the release of another eight war detainees by the Khalifa Hafter Libyan Arab Armed Forces (LAAF – formerly known as the LNA), in the context of the Ceasefire Agreement of 23 Oct 2020.

UNSMIL explained that the release of these detainees took place today at Gate 50 on the Coastal Road, Sirte, under the supervision of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC).

UNSMIL commended the JMC and all parties involved for what it called ‘‘another achievement contributing to confidence-building measures’’.

It called for the release of all detainees to support Libya’s national reconciliation, lasting peace and stability.
