There was no session of the House of Representatives (HoR) held yesterday and there will not be one today either.
It was expected that the House may hold their usual sessions Monday and Tuesday this week to continue debating the problematic 2021 draft budget. This is especially so after the government had presented a third draft to the HoR during last Monday’s session.
However, instead, Abdalla Belheeg, HoR Official Spokesperson, announced yesterday that the HoR had now summoned the government to appear before to face questioning next Monday 30 August.
Belheeg said the government was summoned ‘‘based on the memorandum submitted by a number of members of the House of Representatives, which included their observations on the performance of the government’’.
He explained that ‘‘to give the government enough time to prepare for the questioning session’’, there was no session this week.
With this announcement, and no apparent urgency by either side to approve the budget, it seems that Libya’s draft 2021 budget is very much stuck in the country’s post-2011 complex political quagmire.
