London, 1 July 2021:

The U.S. Embassy in Libya published today the following statement on Libya made yesterday by U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), Chris Coons (D-Delaware), Todd Young (R-Indiana), and Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut):

“As Libyan participants in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum process meet in Geneva to establish the constitutional basis and legal framework for historic elections in December, we wish to convey our support and encouragement for the difficult decisions you must make this week in order to sustain positive momentum in the Libyan political process.

“You are laying the foundations for a democratic Libya that will secure the interests of all its people. Compromise will be necessary. As senators, we are all too familiar with the risks and benefits of the democratic process. We are certain that Libyans will emerge better off thanks to your courage and determination in reaching agreement in Geneva.

“We are confident that in doing so you will also be laying the groundwork for a robust and mutually beneficial relationship between the United States and Libya for decades to come. We can assure all concerned that America is watching and hoping for the best for the Libyan people.”
