London, 1 February 2021:
The Tripoli Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation said yesterday that Security Directorates have begun an inventory of foreign workers in the Libyan labour market.
The Ministry said that the foreign workers in the labour market are divided into three types:
- The first type are those that possess documents and official entry permits to Libya, most of whom were contracted prior to entry and brought into the country by companies and individuals.
- The second type are those who possess documents and but not entered Libya legally. most of them are considered casual/migrant labour. These are the ones the Libyan authorities seek to organize and open the door to contracting them from within Libya.
- The third type are foreign labourers who do not have documents, and in most cases their nationality is in most cases is unknown.
The Ministry said that the inventory is being carried out under the supervision of the Permanent Committee for the Regulation of Foreign Workers, formed according to Presidential Council Resolution No. 640 of 2020.
