Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio has appointed its former Ambassador to Algiers Pasquale Ferrara to serve as Italy’s special envoy to Libya, the Nova news agency reported Thursday.
Ferrara will represent Italy and ensure its full participation in all multilateral initiatives to support the Libyan political process in line with Italy’s traditional commitment to peace and stability in the country.
According to the agency, Ferrara will develop appropriate contacts with the most active local and international players in Libya, and will promote strategic thinking both in Italy and with international experts on the prospects for stability in Libya also in the context of North Africa.
Ferrara served as Italy’s ambassador to Algeria until last November, and held positions in Athens, Brussels and Washington, and was head of the analysis unit at the Italian Foreign Ministry.
