London, 29 October 2020:
The state General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) revealed on Tuesday (27 October) that the operational experiments of its Khoms Emergency Power Station project are continuing with the help of experts from the U.S energy giant GE.
GECOL said the required operational experiments conducted in the past period showed that the use of these experts was necessary. It added that it was determined to bring these generation units online in a way that assures its safety from any damage.
It will be recalled that Libya has been going through acute power cuts, on and off, since the 2011 revolution. The issue has become very political and seen as an indicator of the failure of the present Libyan political order.
In August, the acute power cuts contributed to demonstrations in west and east Libya that threatened to bring down both governments.
