Libya’s Tripoli-based Transport Ministry revealed yesterday that the Zawia port and Mitiga airport navigation centre projects are progressing despite the Coronavirus curfew.
At a meeting yesterday, the Ministry reported its Tender Committee said that the study and the design process of the establishment of Zawia seaport were close to being handed over to the winning company and that the committee will report further next week.
With regards to airport projects, the meeting revealed that the building for an alternative navigation centre for Mitiga airport was ready awaiting the Audit Bureau’s approval on the contract for the supply of equipment for the centre. There were also a number of supply contracts related to the development work of air navigation pending the opening of external credits after the approval of the Central Bank of Libya.
The meeting also revealed that while work on the new Mitiga passenger hall is continuing but at a reduced pace as a result of the Coronavirus curfew from 2pm to 9am the next day, it was agreed with the companies implementing maintenance projects in the air side at Mitiga airport to stop work until security conditions are in place.
An agreement was also concluded with the companies carrying out maintenance work at Misrata airport to stop work until the necessary conditions for work improve.
Thee meeting also strongly condemned the continued bombing of Mitiga airport.
