London, 7 November 2019:

Libya’s Tatweer Research has announced that it has successfully been awarded ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications. It is one of a few Libyan entities to achieve ISO certification during a time of instability and crisis in the country.

Tatweer Research is a Libyan company owned by the state Libyan Local Investment and Development Fund (LLIDF). Describing its work, it says that it strives to be the catalyst for building a knowledge economy in Libya, by investing in various technologies, capacity building, and development programmes.

Over the last few years, Tatweer has been working with several local and international entities, including, UNDP, EU, Cambridge University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and many more other entities. Its headquarters are in Benghazi, but it operates in all Libyan regions and cities, where it has implemented about 15 projects. Of Libya’s hundreds of state companies and sovereign fund-owned entities, it is one of the most active and productive.

Moiz Bohadi, Tatweer’s Risk & Quality Management Office Director, told Libya Herald that ‘‘Tatweer achieved the ISO certifications in very important sectors in Libya: Providing management, consultancy, technical services and economical solutions in research and technology development space, entrepreneurial development, funding, training, mentoring and supporting start-up projects’’.

Commenting on the significance of the ISO certifications for Tatweer, Bohadi added that ‘‘As a global provider of certification services ISO certified standards are not just to hang on the wall and an addition of letters on our letterheads. Its greater than that. It provides continued improvement to staff, services and working in harmony with internal and external stakeholders’’.

‘‘It will provide best practice experience to new professionals, and the proactive indication of constant training development needs to all staff members with no exceptions. It will give our organisation the heads up with confidence in pursuing the best service to our clients with the most transparent and professional attitude to achievement. It will definitely have an impact on the future generation’’, Bohadi added.

Obtaining ISO 9001 and 14001 certification means that Tatweer has met the requirements designated under ISO which requires organizations to define and follow a quality management system that is both appropriate and effective while also requiring them to identify areas for improvement and take action toward those improvements.

As a result, it is typically understood that an organization claiming ISO 9001 and 14001 certification is an organization with products and services that meet quality standards. Put in perspective, there are relatively very few Libyan companies, let alone state-owned entities that have ISO certification in Libya.
