London, 1 August 2019:
An agreement was signed yesterday between Libya’s Passports, Nationality and Foreigners’ Affairs Department (part of the Faiez Serraj Interior Ministry) and Japan’s NEC to activate a previously-signed biometric border control system.
The agreement involves the supply, installation and activation of the system and the automatic issuance of foreign entry visas [AABCS]
The project will start work at Tripoli’s Mitiga airport and Misrata airport and then it will be rolled out to the rest of Libya’s airports and border crossings.
At the signing ceremony, the activating of the work of the electronic gates, as well as training programmes for employees using the systems, in particular the fingerprint system, eye iris scan and face recognition systems, were also discussed.
