The National ID Authority has denied that the ID system is being manipulated.

London, 25 January 2018:

The Libyan National ID Number Authority has denied media claims that its system has been hacked or manipulated.

The denial comes on the back of some media reports that some Libyan citizens were able to register on the electoral roll for a second time during the current electoral registration process. Some Libyans have also reported that the mobile registration system had prevented them from registering. These reports led to suspicions being aired on social lmedia that the system had been manipulated or hacked.

Further suspicion was raised when the Central Bank of Libya announced the total amount that it had distributed of the US$ allowance declaring that all Libyans had received their 2017 allowance.

Nevertheless, the National ID Authority stressed that any registration is double checked with local level data to ensure its accuracy and that the system is under safe hands.

It will be recalled that the  National ID Number database is the database used by all Libyan state authorities, banks etc to conduct many important transactions such as issuing family books, passports, debit cards, receiving state allowances, salaries and registering on the electoral roll.
