Tunis, 7 December 2017:
The State Council has condemned what it calls a “clear bias” shown by United States in moving its embassy to Jerusalem.
It called on Libyans and Muslims throughout the world to demonstrate peacefully in rejection of the decision.
In a statement, it argued that “this step is a clear bias towards the racist so-called state of Israel”.
“This decision will undermine the possibility of any settlement to achieve peace and stability in the region”, it added.
It said the Arab League and the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) “need to take a clear position . . . in order to maintain balance and stability in the region.”
The State Council also insisted that the decision to move the embassy was contrary to international resolutions that consider Jerusalem occupied land.
The House of Representatives has also condemned the US move.
The Beida-based interim government denounced the decision yesterday.
As of yet, the Presidency Council has not made a statement.
