Benghazi, 19 October 2017:
Virtually the entire staff on Benghazi university, from lecturers to cleaners and campus guards is poised to go on strike for better pay and conditions.
The workers’ union met today for a second time in 48 hours to see how they could persuade the university administration to honour what they maintain was its commitment to increase salaries and provide health insurance.
The Benghazi university staff demands mirror those being made by teachers throughout the country. It is understood that the staff are still waiting for a response from the university’s head Mari Al-Maghrabi before a final strike decision is taken.
