Tripoli, 12 September 2017:
An ophthalmologist who has travelled Libya treating people for free has been kidnapped in Tripoli.
Dr Miloud Araoud was seized in front of his house today by unidentified gunmen, bundled into a vehicle and driven away.
Concerned that many patients with eye conditions could not afford treatment, let alone to come to the capital, Araoud has made several tours taking his skill to sufferers around the country, at no charge to them.
It is not known why the doctor has been abducted. However, the likelihood is that he has become yet another victim of the city’s kidnap gangs who demand families pay ransoms for the release of their prisoners.
