Cairo, 18 August 2017:
The Beida-based interim prime minister Abdullah Al-Thinni has appointed Benghazi’s former police chief, Salah Hwedi, as head of the committee supervising the city’s new Security Directorate.
It was Hweidi, as the then security directorate chief who a year ago unveiled ambitious plans to build the new security directorate in Benghazi’s Hawari district. He was then sacked last January although he initially refused to go. He retains command of the counter crime agency in Benghazi which in fact covers much of Cyrenica.
Hweidi has also been put in charge of installing a video surveillance system in the city.
The new committee is supposed to submit a monthly report to the cabinet about how construction is progressing.
