Tunis, 27 July 2017:
Fresh from accompanying Presidency Council (PC) head Faiez Serraj to his meeting in Paris with Khalifa Hafter, the PC’s foreign minister Mohamed Siala arrived in Cairo today to join an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers on the growing concerns throughout the Muslim world over Israeli intentions toward the Haram Al-Sharif in Jerusalem.
Speaking to the emergency session, he said that the Haram Al-Sharif which contains both the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, was a red line for Arabs and all Muslims the world over. Israel’s policies were threatening to turn a political conflict into a religious one which could eventually become a religious war if the Israelis continued on their presence course.
Today, thousands of Palestinians converged on the site both to pray and to protest against Israel, the first time they had been allowed to do in a fortnight. This evening, though, there was fresh violence in the city. More protests are expected tomorrow.
