Tunis, 20 July 2017:
The Libyan National Army (LNA) has rejected a call by the UN Human Rights Commission to suspend a Saiqa Special Forces commander Mahmud Warfali who the UN has said appeared in four videos of summary executions.
Without mentioning Warfali by name an LNA statement said that anyone accused was innocent until proven guilty.
The LNA said that the UN Human Rights Commission spokesman Liz Throssell had had no evidence that prisoners of war captured by the LNA were being caught and killed.
“As for the unverified video,” it said, “we had previously announced that an investigative commission had been formed. Its decision will be publicly announced when the case is closed. Until then, we consider all the charges against our soldiers to be of no value and that they are innocent of those charges until the commission declares otherwise”
