By Olfa Andolsi.

Tunis, 12 June 2017:

The Government of National Accord’s  local government minister Bidad Gansu has suspended Sebha’s mayor, Hamid Rafeh, following the protest resignation of four of his fellow councillors.

Gansu said the decision was taken “for the purposes of public interest”.

A lack of transparency in the mayor’s work and his apparent ineffectiveness was the reason given two days ago when the four council members quit.

However, Rafeh maintained it was because one of the group was after the mayor’s job. Rafeh accused Saleh Badr of consistently undermining his work and making problems.

Furthermore, said Rafeh, the remaining three members had been persuaded to resign in order to have him kicked out.
