This year’s Tripoli International Fair formally opened today with the area around the fair grounds in Shara Omar Mukhtar packed with cars and people hoping to get in. Many had been waiting for hours.
What is formally being classified as the 45th session (the fair in fact first opened its doors in 1927) has some 650 exhibitors, including various government organisations and state owned companies. Attending today’s opening ceremony were government officials as well as mayors of various municipalities.
Following the opening ceremony, the chairman of the General Authority of Exhibitions, Salaheddin Hamza, spoke of his hope that the fair would help in job creation in the country. For his part, Central Tripoli Mayor Abdulraouf Beitelmal acknowledged that the country was facing massive challenges but the fact that the fair as taking place at all indicated that things were changing in the city.
The fair is open to the public from today until Wednesday, 12 April, from 10 am to 7 pm every day, except next Friday when it will be open in the evening only.
