Tripoli, 27 February 2017:
The House of Representatives has failed to agree on a new team to send to the Libya Dialogue. A stormy session today attended by 114 of the nominal 200 membership was suspended until tomorrow.
The HoR’s current rapporteur Saleh Lughma told parliament’s media office there had been different points of view. The Libya Herald understands that there was agreement on the five team members from the east. The impasse arose when it came to selecting the five each from the south and west.
It is understood that informal talks are taking place overnight before the parliamentarians try again tomorrow.
With the Libyan Political Agreement set for changes which will return a central role to the Dialogue, it is clearly important that the HoR has its delegates selected soon.
