Tripoli, 4 January 2017:

Posters bearing the black IS banner were found this morning pasted on public buildings including the police station in Nesmah, a town to the east of Mizdah on the road to Bani Walid and Misrata.

The flyposting is thought to have been done during an overnight powercut when the streets were plunged into darkness. A local resident told Alwasat that the posters had also been found on the court building and the headquarters of judicial police. He said there were concerns that there was an IS sleeper cell in the town

In the run-up to their defeat in Sirte, terrorists are known to have fled south and were reported to have been regrouping near Bani Walid.  Bunyan Marsous operations room said today that its fighters are still involved in a search for IS in the region.  In the last 48 hours the ground sweep has been backed up by aerial surveillance. As yet there have been no reports of terrorists being located and attacked.

That the terrorists have not gone away was apparent last night with the death of a suicide bomber in Sirte.  According to Bunyan Marsous, the man entered a mosque with a concealed suicide belt. He was recognised as an IS member by one of the worshippers who reportedly shot the would-be bomber dead before he could detonate his explosives.

This article has been updated to include the Sirte suicide bomber
