Benghazi, 31 October 2016:
Part of Benghazi and the Jebel Akhdar region in eastern Libya were without electricity for six hours and more today as a result of a technical malfunction relating to the gas supply at Benghazi North power station.
According to state electricity company GECOL, problems with the supply resulted in “irregular combustion” at the power plant.
Staff were briefly evacuated and the turbines switched off. They subsequently returned and managed to deal with the problem.
Unlike Tripoli, power outages in Benghazi had until today almost disappeared.
