Tripoli, 20 October 2016:
Libyan Airlines’ chairman and CEO is reported to have been seized by armed men in Tripoli.
According to Alwasat, Captain Fathi Al-Shatti was kidnapped yesterday afternoon by unknown gunmen. There has been no response from his phone. Shatti had at one time also been a director of Tripoli International Airport.
There are unconfirmed reports that an earlier attempt to abduct Shatti was made at his Gargaresh home in January. On that occasion one of the attackers was shot dead.
This summer top management was convulsed in a power struggle over who should be CEO. Former chairman Khaled Tinaz, who was sacked in 2014, disputed his successor, Ahmed Ali Al-Ghadiri’s choice of Miloud Bakar as chief executive. It is not clear if Shatti had any involvement in the dispute.
