Tunis, 27 August 2016:
The new Dutch ambassador to Libya, Eric Strating, has been sworn in by King Willem-Alexander and is expected to arrive in Tunis where he will be based for the time being by the beginning of September.
He replaces Hans Sandee who is now Dutch Consul-General in Dubai.
Previously one of the heads of the Dutch foreign ministry’s North Africa and Middle East Department, he has been shadowing Sandee since his appointment was announced last December.
Several current European ambassadors to Libya who are now based in Tunis are leaving or have left, including those of Germany and France and the EU.
