Tunis, 16 July 2016:
The attempted coup in Turkey delayed the start of the Libya Dialogue meeting in Tunis today. Because Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport was closed for some hours last night and flight schedules thereafter disrupted, some delegates, including those from Misrata, were held up.
The full meeting at the luxury Gold Tulip hotel is therefore now scheduled to begin at 5.30 pm. Nevertheless a number of small meeting was being held this morning with IS president Barack Obama’s special envoy Jonathan Winer and UNSMIL chief Martin Kobler working the rooms.
Kobler, busy and cheerful as usual, assured this newspaper that everything was going well. The meeting was planned for two days. It was unclear if it is now due to run into Monday.
