Tripoli, 9 July 2016:
A man, thought to be trying to steel copper power cabling, was electrocuted yesterday in Sebha.
His badly-charred body was found stuck near the top of a pylon on the outskirts of the town. A GECOL engineer said that he would have received an 11,000 volt shock when he touched the live cable.
His identity is unknown but it is thought he may have been a sub-Saharan migrant, perhaps trying to raise money for his onward journey to the coast.
GECOL thanked Libyan Red Crescent personnel for helping them bring the body down from the pylon.
This is by no means the first time that migrants have died in this way in Sebha. In April last year two males were electrocuted when they cut into a cable.
