Tripoli, 13 July 2016:
The trial of Saadi Qaddafi for murder and war crimes has been postponed for a seventh time. The next hearing has now been put down to begin on 2 October, this year.
As with the adjournment in May it is thought that this latest delay may have been prompted by a request from Saadi’s lawyers for more time to continue studying paper produced by the prosecution at the start of the year.
Muammar Qaddafi’s one-time playboy son appeared briefly in the special courtroom in Hadba prison where he is being held and where is brother Saif and seven other leading figures of the former regime were last year found guilty and sentenced to death.
Among the charges against Saadi are that in March 2006 he murdered Ittihad Tripoli football team coach, Bashir Al-Rayani. He has also been accused of war crimes during the Revolution, false imprisonment and drinking alcohol.
