Second kidnapped Warshefana boy murdered when ransom unpaid

By Moutaz Ali.

Tripoli, 9 May 2016:

Kidnappers dumped the body of a young boy outside a Warshefana mosque yesterday after his family . . .[restrict]failed to raise the demanded LD 200,000 ransom.

The victim, Eham Mahdani, thought to be nine or ten, was seized outside his Warshfana home eight days ago. It is reported that forensic tests found that the boy had probably not been given anything to eat since his abduction. The cause of death has not been released. A photo of Eham’s body shows signs of bruising to the neck and forehead.

“Once again this crime demonstrates the loss of all humanity in the country” said Taher Al-Badawi, the former spokesman of Supreme Council of Elders of Libya in a social media post today.

Badawi quit his post in February in protest at a similar kidnapping, also in Warshfana.  The gang that seized 12 year-old Abdullah Daghnush said they would kill him unless they were paid LD 2 million, which was later reduced to LD 500,000.  The family were unable to raise the money.

After Abdullah’s father received a call from the criminals, he found his son’s body between Janzur and Siyad. The rope with which he had been hanged was still around his neck and it was clear that he had been tortured.

Kidnappings appear to have increased significantly in recent months. By no means all these crimes are reported to any authority or given any publicity. The abductors have sometimes made this one of their conditions. [/restrict]
