Benghazi, 10 May 2016:
The so-called Islamic State (IS) says it has executed two nurses it captured last month during . . .[restrict]fighting in Gwarsha. In a propaganda video purporting to show the men being slaughtered, IS also claims to have killed a soldier it had also captured. Named as Abdussalam Saaiti, he was filmed digging his own grave before being murdered.
All were shot in the head, supposedly in Gwarsha.
The veracity of the video has not been confirmed.
Nurses Jibril Al-Araibi and Mohamed Al-Rubaie, both from Benghazi, normally worked at Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC). However, they were serving on the front line with the Libyan National Army in the operation in Gwarsha against IS and its allies on 19 April when they were captured.
At the time of the nurses’ capture, BMC staff organised a protest demanding their release. Today, the hospital put out a statement on its Facebook page offering it condolences to the two men’s families, and calling them martyrs. It also called on staff to attend prayers this afternoon for the two nurses at the Nur Al-Huda Mosque in the city’s Salam district. [/restrict]
